About Us
This site will give you more information about our:
The Economic Policy Research Institute (EPRI) was founded in 1994 to support the process of South Africa's socio-economic transformation and development. EPRI is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) registered under Section 21 of the Companies Act. The Institute is based in Cape Town, South Africa.

Mission
The mission of EPRI supports the development of economic policy options that promote economic growth and social equity in South Africa. The combination of macroeconomic constraints and historical imbalances in the distribution of resources requires careful analysis of existing problems and the ongoing articulation of policy solutions. EPRI is committed to analysing South Africa's socio-economic conditions and constructing sustainable economic polices that foster job creation and redistribution while supporting sustained economic growth and macroeconomic stability.

Objectives
The main objective of EPRI is to carry out research supporting the objectives of economic growth, job creation, and redistribution. The orientation of the research is largely macroeconomic, supported by a careful analysis of microeconomic underpinnings drawn from an investigation of South African conditions.

Capacity building
Capacity building is supported on three levels:

  • providing a core of methodological and policy papers to support research and analysis,
  • education of social and economic issues and training through courses, conferences, and seminars, and
  • staffing programme activities with junior and senior researchers from commissioning non-governmental organisations.

Partnerships
Co-operative relationships with the Department of Economics of the University of the Western Cape and Williams College Center for Development Economics provide valuable contributions to the work of the institute.
